Quesabirria and Buñuelo Relleno from La Taqueria Pinche Taco Shop

Feliz Jueves! Happy Thursday! For our weekly team lunch tradition, the chosen theme is Mexican food, and I am so excited because one of my colleagues is from Mexico. We asked her to select the spot, and we went to La Taqueria Pinche Taco Shop in their West Hastings location.

When we arrived at the cozy La Taqueria, my colleague spoke to the server in Spanish. Since she ordered Quesabirria for two, we all got the same thing. Quesabirria is a Jalisco-style beef birria folded into a warm corn tortilla, generously adorned with cheese, onions, and cilantro.

The succulent meat, the melting cheese, and the freshness of the toppings created a harmonious explosion of flavour. Dipping it in consommé added an extra layer of richness, pushing it over the top.

As if the quesabirria wasn't enough, we decided to cap off our lunch with a sweet finale - Buñuelo Relleno. It's an empanada covered in cinnamon and sugar, filled with creamy rice pudding, and served with the perfect cajeta dip. The crispy exterior, paired with the luscious rice pudding, left us in dessert heaven and in a food coma.

We also had an excellent discussion about how best to eat a taco. It was one of the best lunches we've had.
