Mother's Day Lunch Celebration from Sumi Korean Restaurant

The restrictions in BC are slowly easing up, and we decided to expand our social bubble by visiting my family in Richmond. We spent a good portion of Sunday having lunch and playing games with my siblings and, of course, sharing a meal to celebrate our mom.

Our mom loves Korean cuisine, so we decided to order some of her favourite dishes from Sumi Korean Restaurant.

What to get from Sumi Korean Restaurant?

Two order of Pork Goonmandu (deep-fried pork dumplings)

The Goonmandu was delicious; of course, as expected with delivered food, it wasn't as crispy as what it would have been if we ate it at the restaurant. Nonetheless, it was delicious.

Haemul Pajeon (Seafood and Green Onion Pancake)

I have tried a handful of Haemul Pajeon from other Korean restaurants, but this one has the most seafood.

Japchae (stir-fried glass noodles with vegetables) - Mama's favourite Korean dish

The Japchae was alright, but what is surprising is how it arrived still hot. 

Kkanpunggi (deep-fried chicken with sweet and sour sauce)

It's our first time trying Kkanpunggi, and it did not disappoint. It's sweet, a bit sour, and mildly spicy. It was great with rice.

We hoped to have ordered Korean BBQ too, but hopefully, that's for next Mother's Day!

Thursday at Tim Hortons

Last Tuesday and Wednesday after lunch, I will get this terrible migraine. I have to fight it through and continue working. After work (around 6:00 PM), today and yesterday, we decided to take an hour's walk around the neighbourhood. It's fun to be out and enjoy the beautiful day. It's also lovely to see the handful of restaurants open and doing their best to survive.

We still keep our distance from people and would sometimes walk along the street (when there are no cars) to give way.

Anyway, before heading back home after our walk, we decided to grab Caramel Iced Capp from Tim Hortons. I didn't have a migraine today, but I did get brain freeze. :)

Cinco de Mayo: Burrito, Nachos, and Quesadilla from Las Margaritas

Happy Cinco de Mayo! It's the third year in a row that we get Mexican food on this day. Last year, we went to Tacofino Taco Bar and ate a lot of tacos. The year before, we went to Sal y Limón.

This year because of COVID-19, we can't dine in a Mexican restaurant. Instead, we had food delivered from Las Margaritas. As always, we ordered too much.

What to get from Las Margaritas?

For the appetizer, we ordered Nachos Rancheros. I was also tempted to try the Fiesta Platter but thought it might be too much.

Tortilla chips covered with black beans, melted cheese, salsa, tomatoes, lettuce, and green onions. Topped with guacamole, sour cream, and black olives.

Entrees and House Specials

For our main, we ordered the Burrito and Deluxe Quesadilla.

Roasted Beef Burrito
A large flour tortilla rolled with edam, cheddar, mozzarella cheese, and roasted beef covered with a mild red sauce. Both are topped with melted cheese and sour cream. Served with refried beans and Mexican rice.

The Mexican rice with roasted beef is so delicious. I'll be happy just eating those rice with any meat, really.

Deluxe Chicken Quesadilla
Large grilled flour tortilla filled with melted cheese, grilled chicken breast, sauteed vegetables, and fresh cilantro. Served with sour cream, salsa, black beans, and house salad.

The house salad the quesadilla came with is so yummy! I'd be happy to get that salad and whatever dressing (seems to be vinaigrette) it came with.

The churros made Tuesday extra better. I've been having a tough Monday (yesterday) and a stressful morning as well. But that churros made everything seems better. Things will be okay.

Triple Treat Pizza Hut delivery

Saturday means we can eat take out food. I have been craving for pizza and I really want Pizza Hut stuffed crust. Meanwhile, hubby wants dessert so we decided to get a Triple Treat box (I kept reading it as Triple Threat LOL).

For lunch today, we had 1 slice of Meat Lover's and Cheese Lover's each. For dinner, we're going to eat the Breadsticks and Boneless Bites. I'd imagine tomorrow breakfast will be Filipino Chicken Curry which I cooked last Thursday and lunch will be pizza. Dinner will probably be PB&J sandwich since our bread is going to expire on May 5.

Dinner delivery from Tony's Fish & Oyster Cafe

I miss fish and chips, so it's timely when I discovered that Tony's Fish & Oyster Cafe is now open for pickup.

We had our usual 2-pc Salmon Fish and Chips (yam fries) and 2-pc Halibut and Chips (onion rings). Yay for food coma hearty dinner.

Lunch supporting Suika

Suika is my favourite restaurant. We eat here at least once a month for lunch because that's the only time they serve my favourite Katsu Curry (they have the best Japanese curry sauce).

Because of COVID-19, Suika decided to close and have only opened recently for pick-up and delivery. Today, we decided to have Suika.

I did my best with presentation, but it's hard. The curry is as good, how I regret not ordering extra curry sauce like I usually do when I dine in.

I can't wait for Suika to open for dine-in.

Cake Craving Satisfied from Meinhardt

We're now nearing the end of our 5th week working from home and only going out to grab food and groceries. It's been challenging mentally, but doable. In the last couple of days, I wanted to eat something sweet like cake or doughnut.

That craving was satisfied today. I went to Meinhardt Fine Foods to do our weekly grocery run. I'm sorry that we can't store food for two weeks, we have a small fridge in our apartment. Anyway, I purchased ingredients for what I'm going to cook Filipino Pork Giniling (recipe here) and decided to get red velvet cake.

We didn't finish the whole thing. I divided it into four, so we can have some more tomorrow. How are you coping with the current situation?

Lunch from Sushivan Japanese Restaurant

There's an ongoing campaign on Twitter to make every Wednesday of the week starting April 15, #TakeOutDay in Canada to support restaurants. Instead of using delivery apps that eat up most of a restaurant's margin, give them a call to place your order, and when possible, pick them up.

Right now, there's only a handful of restaurants open in our neighbourhood, so supporting small, local restaurants at this time are crucial to ensure they survive the effects of COVID-19.

For lunch and dinner today, I ordered food from Sushivan Japanese Restaurant. This morning I had difficulty deciding whether to order from Sushivan or from MASA. I checked their online pages and saw the news that someone broke inside Sushivan and stole all their credit card machines. It's sad for them to experience such loss, so I decided to give them a call and place my order for what I planned to be lunch, but way too much so we'll eat it for dinner too.

The thief came last night. He stole all the credit card machines. So you can pay with your credit card number. Please provide your credit card number when making delivery or takeout orders. We do not require a tip or delivery charge, but please let us know if you would like to pay for the tip if you wish. Thank you.

Korean Style Ramen (with Beef)

This is the first time I'm ordering the ramen with beef instead of my usual chicken. I prefer chicken. Regretting it, but hubby and I split the ramen and ate it with the Awesome Special Roll for lunch, so it's all good.
