A Mother's Day Tradition: Celebrating Mom with a Feast at Dai Jang Kum

Mother's Day is a time to celebrate the incredible women who raised us, and for our family, that celebration often involves delicious food. This year, as always, Mom had one simple request: a meal at Dai Jang Kum in Richmond, BC.

A Familiar Feast: Our "Usual" at Dai Jang Kum

Dai Jang Kum has become a Mother's Day staple in our family. Each year, we return for a meal filled with laughter, love, and, of course, incredible Korean BBQ. This year was no different. We opted for our usual favourite: Combo A BBQ. This generous platter features a mouthwatering selection of marinated meats – chicken, beef, beef short rib, and pork – all sizzling to perfection on the table-top grill.

Combo A from Dai Jang Kum is a combination platter of BBQ meats, including chicken, beef, beef short ribs and pork, and it includes steamed rice, salad, and side dishes (banchan).

No Korean BBQ experience is complete without the incredible array of banchan (side dishes). Dai Jang Kum doesn't disappoint in this department, offering a vibrant selection of kimchi, pickled vegetables, and other delightful accompaniments that perfectly complement the grilled meats.

Mom's Must-Haves: Japchae and Seafood Pancake

Beyond the BBQ, we also indulged in some of Mom's all-time favourites. The japchae, stir-fried glass noodles with vegetables and meat, are delicious as always. The seafood pancake is a crispy creation packed with fresh seafood and vegetables.

Pan-Fried Dumpling Perfection

My youngest sister couldn't resist her personal favourite—the pan-fried dumplings. These golden pockets of goodness, filled with savoury meat and vegetables, are a guaranteed crowd-pleaser and offer the perfect textural contrast to the BBQ meats.

A Meal to Remember: A Tastier Than Usual Treat

Everything at Dai Jang Kum was, as always, absolutely delicious. The meats were perfectly marinated, the banchan was delightful, and the japchae and seafood pancake hit all the right notes. Mom even commented that the food seemed even better and tastier than usual – a testament to the restaurant's consistent quality and commitment to flavour.

Our Mother's Day meal at Dai Jang Kum wasn't just about the incredible food; it was about creating lasting memories with the woman who means the world to us. The shared laughter, the heartwarming conversations, and the delicious feast all came together to create a perfect Mother's Day celebration.
