When is Proudly Philippines 2022: Food and Travel Fair?

June 11, 2022, Saturday (A day before Philippine Independence Day)

What time?

It's from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Where is the Proudly Philippines 2022: Food and Travel Fair?

It will be at Robson Square in Downtown Vancouver.

I will update this post once more information becomes available.

June 2, 2022 Update:

There is still no official update from PCG in Vancouver, but the following Filipino brands have shared on Instagram that they will be at the event. So consider this an unofficial update.

I will update this post once an official update becomes available.

June 3, 2022 Update:

The Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver posted this on their Facebook page:
The Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver is pleased to invite everyone to “Proudly Philippines - Philippine Food and Travel Fair" at the Robson Square in downtown Vancouver on Saturday, 11 June 2022

Proudly Philippines was first launched in 2019 to showcase Philippine cuisine and travel destinations to the Canadian and second-generation Filipino-Canadian markets, with the hope of introducing to them a glimpse of Filipino culture and enticing them to visit the many beautiful places in the Philippines. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic that hit the world, including Canada, however, we had to do virtual iterations of Proudly Philippines in the twO years that followed. This year, as Canada emerges from the throes of the pandemic, we are delighted to bring back to you, in person, our Proudly Philippines event.

Celebrating everything Filipino, Proudly Philippines will feature Philippine food products and cuisine, tour packages to travel destinations in the Philippines, and Filipino non-food businesses in Vancouver, as well as cultural performances, intended to create a Philippine experience" for all. Learn more about our participating vendors and performers in the days leading to the event.

Come and spend the day with us at Proudly Philippines as we celebrate the 124th anniversary of Philippine Independence and Filipino Heritage Month in Canada. The market will open at 10 a.m.

June 3, 2022 Update:

I found this video on YouTube promoting the event.

Based on this, we still don't have a list of vendors or programs for the day.

I will do my best to keep an eye out if additional details will be released by Vancouver PCG before the event and update this post.

June 6, 2022 Update: A Facebook post on the PCG in Vancouver page has been shared with the list of food vendors.

Dinner from Bombay South Asian Kitchen at BC Place | Canada Men's National Team Concacaf National League Match

Dramatic. This is how I would describe the days before the Canada Men's National Team match against Curaçao today.

BC Place

My Experience (Rant)

I am one of the excited people who purchased tickets to the Iran friendly scheduled for June 5 and the game today when the tickets were sold last May 14. I chose the section, row, and seats we wanted, and we're good to go.

On May 26, CanMNT announced that the game against Iran had been cancelled and that refunds would be issued within 30 days. Fine. We still have the game today to look forward to. Four days later (May 30), they announced that a friendly match with Panama would be played on June 5 to replace the Iran game. They even offered it at a really affordable price of $30 (plus fees) per person. I got three tickets this time.

Then, two hours before the game, when we started our walk to BC Place (Thank God that we live relatively close to BC Place and can take a 40-minute walk going there), we randomly checked Twitter just in case it got cancelled. True enough, there was a press release that the players have decided to go on strike and won't be playing.

I was upset. After a couple of hours, I calmed down, especially when I received an official email from Ticketmaster that the organizer had cancelled the game and that I should expect my refund within 30 days.

Let's do some computation here. On May 14, I paid $219.50 for two tickets for the Iran match and another $219.50 for two tickets for the Curaçao game. Then on May 30, I paid $110.25 for three tickets to the Panama game.

As of this post, I still haven't received the $329.75 refund I expect from Canada Soccer through Ticketmaster for the two cancelled games.

75% Discount

Do you know the real kicker that makes me feel like crap? On June 7, Canada Soccer sent an email offering a 75% discount for the Curaçao game. So if I purchased the same section and row on June 7 instead of May 14, I would only spend $66.25. That's upsetting. I feel like I "donated" $153.25 to the Canada Soccer Business and the Canada Soccer Association. I don't think I want to do that, given what has happened.

Last June 7, I sent a message to Canada Soccer Association asking for a partial refund for the game today. This is the response I received the following day.

We understand your frustration. Canada Soccer is working towards providing an opportunity for as many fans to attend the Curacao match as possible. Fans can request a refund by logging into your Ticketmaster Account. Once you're in your account, choose your event, scroll down and click the 'Contact Us' button.

I followed the instructions in the email and spoke with a Ticketmaster representative, and this is the response I got on June 8.

Hello my name is Andy I will be assisting you today.

At this time, the event is still scheduled as planned and the Event Organizer is currently not authorizing refunds.

Obviously, one of them is lying, so I forwarded the email I received from Canada Soccer to Ticketmaster and informed Canada Soccer of what Ticketmaster said. The "He said, she said" between organizer and Ticketmaster is exhausting. I still haven't heard from either company, and the game is now over.

So much hate towards Vancouver

It's also discouraging to see supporters of the National Team from other cities shame or call out Vancouver folks for the low attendance.

Walking to BC Place on this rainy afternoon

1. We're lucky to have two games played at BC Place close to each other on June 5 and 9, but people have a limited budget they can allocate for these activities, and it's evident that people opt to watch the game on the weekend.

2. It's not supporters of BC's fault that both games scheduled on Sunday were cancelled.

3. We haven't received the refund for the Sunday game. If people receive their money back, they will most likely buy again for the Thursday game.

Results and Farewell

The CanMNT won against Curaçao 4-0. I wasn't fully invested in the match, but it's nice to see Davies back in BC Place. It's like my younger brother is now all grown up. LOL.

Moving forward, I won't be subscribing to One Soccer and will most likely not watch them in person again (unless I get free tickets). The whole experience has been unexpected, exhausting, and emotional. I'll continue to focus my energy on the Whitecaps FC (at least they're consistent, and my expectations could not go any lower), and we will start watching hockey more.

"Thank you, Fans!" on display at BC Place.

For people saying that CanMNT should not host any more games in Vancouver, I am at the point where I don't care.

As a new supporter who purchased tickets to CanMNT matches this window, watched the CanWNT when they were here in April, and even bought shirts to support the team, I am done. My limited financial resource would instead be spent on a team and fanbase that will appreciate and respect supporters.

Lastly, we're supporting a one Canada team and it's such a turnoff how much some supporters do the "our city is better than yours". If we're fighting over MLS team or CPL team, fine, you can hate each other all you want, but not for the National Team. The only criticism I throw around is for the team I support and the 'Caps are getting a lot of that when they don't play well (which is more frequent than we'd like to see).

June 22 Update:

I am no longer angry or upset about what happened two weeks ago. It also helped that Canada Soccer refunded $219.50 twice. Meaning, they essentially refunded the full price I paid for the Iran game which has been cancelled and for the Curaçao game which I watched. I am okay with them keeping the payment for the cancelled Panama as payment for the Curaçao  match since I purchased that at a discounted price even if I purchased three instead of two. Thanks Canada Soccer for doing the right thing.

Dinner from Bombay South Asian Kitchen

Anyway, now let's discuss the food. Today, we ordered from Bombay South Asian Kitchen.

Dinner from Bombay South Asian Kitchen

It's my fault for having high expectations for delicious South Asian food inside BC Place.

Lamb Korma Curry
Tender lamb shoulder, onion, tomato, garam masala, and coconut milk

The Lamb Korma Curry lacks flavour. It's like watered down, which is unfortunate. The naan bread feels like something you'll get from nearby Costco, and they don't even attempt to keep it warm to give the impression that it's made in-house.

Butter Chicken Curry
Boneless chicken, fenugreek, garam masala, crushed tomato, and cream

Thankfully, the Butter Chicken Curry has more flavour. So if ever you want Butter Chicken, it's acceptable. However, if you want a delicious rice bowl, the one from Boom Kitchen is way better.

Vegetable Samosas (2 pieces)
Handmade with peas, carrots, potatoes, and spices

The samosas were huge. Definitely bigger than expected, but flavour-wise, it's not something I can recommend. There are a lot of delicious Indian restaurants in Vancouver, so my expectation for this kiosk may be unfairly high.

That's it! I'll be back at BC Place on July 2 to watch the Whitecaps FC and continue my quest to buy from all food places inside the stadium.

BC Place Beer Menu and Prices 2022

Updated BC Place menu 2023 is available here.

I don't drink beer or wine. I occasionally will drink cocktails, but that's about it. Since I frequently visit BC Place, I thought of making a list of the alcohol menu and its prices. This is not a comprehensive list (I'm missing The Thirsty Pigeon) and I will do my best to update it.

Warning: Do not bring alcoholic beverages from outside, or the BC Place security may kick you out of the game.

Limits: Limit of two (2) 12 oz or one (1) 24 oz alcoholic beverages per person.

Prices below are based on the menu at BC Place last June 4, 2022, and are subject to change without prior notice. Taxes and tips are not included. All prices are in Canadian dollars.

Bison Pot Roast for dinner at Salmon n' Bannock | How to celebrate your Oath of Citizenship Ceremony?

It's a special day. My husband is having his Oath of Citizenship Ceremony today as the final step in becoming a Canadian citizen. So to celebrate, we decided to have English food for breakfast, French cuisine for lunch, and Indigenous specialty for dinner in honour of the three groups that founded Canada: the aboriginal (First Nations, Inuit, and Metis people), the French, and the British. We also took the day off today, so a break from work.

To end our Canadian Citizenship celebration, we had dinner at the only Indigenous restaurant in Vancouver, Salmon n' Bannock.

They have the friendliest service in all of Vancouver. The service is just top-notch. They explained the menu and just made us comfortable.

We have ordered from Salmon n' Bannock in the past, but only to-go since they are always jam-packed. This time we went there at 5:00 PM without any reservations hoping for the best, and we got seats. Whew!

To start our meal, we had West Coast Salmon Chowder, and it's the best one I have tried in Vancouver. It's close to the best one I've ever had in another Indigenous restaurant in Whistler. Included in our mains is a Signature Bannock served with butter. The Bannock was amazingly warm. I love it. Hmmm.

For our mains, hubby ordered the Bison Pot Roast, which is something we've been wanting, but it's unavailable for takeout. Meanwhile, I had the Sausage Dinner. Before you get upset, we surprisingly tried most items in their Mains menu, and only a few left, so I went for meat.

Bison Pot Roast
Roasted for 24 hours and melts in your mouth. The bison gravy is good enough to drink out of a wine glass. Served with daily vegetables and signature bannock.

Sausage Dinner
Two links of our rotating game sausage. Always a fresh flavour. Served with daily vegetables, daily potatoes, and Signature bannock.

Everything was already delicious at this point, but the desserts were a happy surprise. The Lemon Meringue Citrus Cheesecake is mindblowing. I didn't expect it to be that good.

Below is a list of Mains in the Salmon n' Bannock online menu.

☑️ "Fiss n' Rice" - December 2021
☑️ Bison Pot Roast - this post
☑️ Sausage Dinner - this post
☑️ Urban Smoked Salmon Burger - June 2021
☑️ "Feel the Beet" Power Salad (Called Pow Wow Power Salad in UberEats) - June 2021
☑️ Bannock Taco - December 2021
☑️ Signature Bannock with House Chili (Takeout menu)- December 2021

I am so happy to end our celebration by supporting truly the first people in the country we now know as Canada. Thank you for sharing with us your land, food, and culture.

---

After our lunch at Marché Mon Pitou, we walked a couple blocks to Beaucoup Bakery & Café for desserts. I had delicious donuts while hubby chose the pistachio croissant. We ate it on their patio while having a good time just talking about random things.

I'll happily eat more of their donuts, but there's only one left.

It's filled with chocolates!

Thank God for such an excellent life partner and for all the blessings like the beautiful sunny day, healthy body, and so much more.

Croque Madame for lunch at Marché Mon Pitou | How to celebrate your Oath of Citizenship Ceremony?

It's a special day. My husband is having his Oath of Citizenship Ceremony today as the final step in becoming a Canadian citizen. So to celebrate, we decided to have English food for breakfast, French cuisine for lunch, and Indigenous specialty for dinner in honour of the three groups that founded Canada: the aboriginal (First Nations, Inuit, and Metis people), the French, and the British. We also took the day off today, so a break from work.

For lunch today, we walked to nearby Marché Mon Pitou, a French café, bistro, and special grocer.

Lunch at Marché Mon Pitou

Hubby ordered the Croque Madame while I enjoyed Bouillabaisse Risotto. If you can only pick one from their brunch and lunch menu, I think the Croque Madame is delicious. However, if we didn't have eggs for breakfast, I would have chosen the Le Mon Pitou, so I opted for the Risotto on the lunch menu.

Bouillabaisse Risotto
Creamy Risotto cooked in a 24-hour bouillabaisse broth topped with fresh seafood, including spot prawns, clams, and squid.

Croque Madame
A French classic-warm ham and cheese sandwich topped with béchamel, gruyère, & a fried free-range egg. Served with toasted greens.

I chose the Cold Pressed Orange Juice for drinks while my hubby had the Noisette.

If you're in the area and want delicious food, Marché Mon Pitou is an excellent option.

English Breakfast from Le Petit Belge | How to celebrate your Oath of Citizenship Ceremony?

It's a special day. My husband is having his Oath of Citizenship Ceremony today as the final step in becoming a Canadian citizen. So to celebrate, we decided to have English food for breakfast, French cuisine for lunch, and Indigenous specialty for dinner in honour of the three groups that founded Canada: the aboriginal (First Nations, Inuit, and Metis people), the French, and the British. We also took the day off today, so a break from work.

We searched for English Breakfast online, and the restaurant Google suggested is Le Petit Belge. We checked their menu, and sure enough, there was English Hot Breakfast which we ordered for my husband. Then, of course, I had my "usual" Salmon Benny with an English muffin. We have English Breakfast tea at home, which we enjoy with our meal.

Breakfast from Le Petit Belge

Unfortunately, the English Hot Breakfast arrived without the baked beans and baked tomatoes, making it just a Hot Breakfast and not the "English" experience. To say that my husband is disappointed is an understatement. However, he won't let it go and have asked me to write about it and to leave a review that a restaurant with a French name which specializes in Belgian waffles does not serve English Breakfast.

English Hot Breakfast
Bacon, pork sausage, sunny side up, oven-baked potatoes, beans in tomato sauce, baked tomatoes, mushrooms, and bagel

Salmon Benny
Sliced smoked sockeye salmon, two poached eggs, avocado, oven-baked potatoes, hollandaise sauce, and English muffin

Though, I highly recommend the Salmon Benny. The avocado with salmon and the creamy hollandaise sauce is done exceptionally well.

I also ordered the Fresh Fruit Bowl.

Thank you, Canada, for welcoming us to your beautiful country.

Munchu Picchu Food Truck at TGIF Vancouver

TGIF is back! The South Granville Business Improvement Association (SGBIA) organized Thank Granville It's Food Trucks (TGIF). Every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 12 noon until 7 in the evening from June through the last weekend of August, there will be a rotating lineup of food trucks along West 10th Avenue at Fir Street in front of the Vancouver School Board building.

Lunch from Munchu Picchu

After Sunday mass, we decided to drop by TGIF and see which food trucks were already open. It's our first time trying Peruvian food. The lady with Munchu Picchu is the friendliest we've had to deal with in all the food trucks we had the pleasure of buying from.

Munchu Picchu Peruvian Food Truck in Vancouver

We ordered three items from the menu and walked home to eat lunch while watching this Mark Wiens video on Peruvian food.

Food and Drinks from Munchu Picchu Food Truck

Hubby chose both dishes. He read the menu and all the descriptions and said that these items have adjectives before the word Peruvian.

Salchi Broaster
Famous Peruvian street food. Crispy fries top it with a sliced beef wiener and two fried chicken drumsticks, shredded lettuce, and drizzle with our favourite sauce.

I chose the spicy mayo sauce for the Salchi Broaster, and it was delicious. I'll gladly order this again.

Fried Chicken Drumsticks in our Salchi Broaster

Pan Con Lomo
Traditional Peruvian dish, a stir fry that combines marinated strips of AAA beef sirloin with onions, tomatoes, cilantro, green onions, and fries, and served in our in-house-made calabrese buns.

Beef and onions are a combination I am familiar with growing up, so I am absolutely enjoying this sandwich.

Jugo de Maracuya
Refreshing your taste bud with our Jugo de Maracuya is made out of real fresh passion fruit.

The lady did a great job upselling the passion fruit juice because it was refreshing, especially after taking a bite of the Pan Con Lomo.

Dinner from The Mac Bar at BC Place | Vancouver Whitecaps FC vs Real Salt Lake

The Whitecaps won 2-1 against Real Salt Lake! I think every time the 'Caps host Indigenous Peoples in their matches, they win (check the 3-0 win against San Jose Earthquakes last October 2, 2021).

As I continue eating from all the food vendors in BC Place, our early dinner tonight is from The Mac Bar. We tried the Mac & Cheese Bowl last April 8, 2022, and it was good. It doesn't taste like Mac & Cheese you get in a box from the grocery store. I didn't grow up eating Mac & Cheese, so I am not the best judge, but I thought it was good.

For today, we customized our Mac & Cheese. I added All Beef Sausage while hubby chose the Pulled Beef Short Rib.

Mac & Cheese with Pulled Beef Short Rib

Mac & Cheese with All Beef Sausage

Go for the Short Rib. No question. It's miles superior to the All Beef Sausage.

Tomorrow, we'll be back at BC Place for the Canada Men's National Team friendly VS Panama.
