Dinner from Delhi6 Restaurant

Happy Tuesday! I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving long weekend, Canada. I didn't order HelloFresh this week, which means going to the groceries and cooking OR ordering food we can reheat and enjoy with rice. I chose the latter.

Today, I decided to enjoy food from Delhi6 Restaurant along West Broadway. I was planning to order from a different Indian restaurant, but I picked Delhi6 because they commented on one of my Instagram posts (so it seems like marketing with Instagram works because Delhi6 wasn't even on my radar when searching for where to order this week).

I am unsure what to get from Delhi6, so I looked up all my previous Indian restaurant posts to find what we usually get, and here is a list:
  • 1x Bombay Mixed Platter, which includes Veggie Samosa, Veggie Pakora, Chicken Pakora, and Fish Pakora
  • 1x Mixed (Vegetables, Chicken, Lamb, and Prawn) Biryani
  • 1x Aloo Palak (Cauliflower and Spinach)
  • 2x Palak Paneer (Spinach and Cottage Cheese)
  • 2x Garlic Naan
  • 2x Chicken Vindaloo
  • 2x Tandoori Chicken
  • 2x Veggie Samosa (2 pcs)
  • 2x Gulab Jamun

What we ordered from Delhi6?

Based on the list and their menu, we ordered the following items for pick up today.

Currey Poutine, Samosa with Chickpeas Curry, Garlic Nan, Tandoori Chicken, Spinach Paneer Curry, and Chicken Vindaloo
  • Samosa with Chickpeas Curry
  • Tandoori Chicken
  • Chicken Vindaloo
  • Spinach Paneer Curry
  • Garlic Nan
  • Currey Poutine
The Samosa with Chickpeas Curry, Currey Poutine, and Garlic Nan are our dinner for tonight. I enjoyed both the Samosa and Currey Poutine. I regret not adding chicken to the poutine, but it's so creamy and cheesy even on its own. I wish I didn't have to share.

Currey Poutine from Delhi6 Restaurant
Menu Description: Homemade potato wedge, cumin salt with Delhi 6 curry curd cheese

After trying curry poutine, it's hard to go back to gravy.

Samosa with Chickpeas Curry and Garlic Nan

Huge and delicious samosa

We're going to have the Tandoori Chicken, Spinach Paneer Curry, and Chicken Vindaloo for breakfast and lunch the next three days.

Tandoori Chicken served with lacha onions and mint chutney

Spinach Paneer Curry (other restaurants would call this Palak Paneer)
Menu Description: Baby spinach puree, fresh cottage cheese curry, and fresh cream

Chicken Vindaloo
Menu Description: Chicken & potato cooked in spicy tangy sauce

October 13, 2021 Update:
We had the Spinach Paneer and Tandoori Chicken. I had the paneer as medium spice level and it tasted like mild. It was still delicious.

However, the Tandoori Chicken is the star. I reheated it in the air fryer for 5 minutes at 400 Fahrenheit, the inside was juicy and tender while maintaining the tandoor flavour of the exterior. The Tandoori Chicken was on top of lachi onions and peppers. I didn't want to throw it away, so I might use it for omelet tomorrow or the following day. We'll see.

Will update this post again once we had the Chicken Vindaloo.

October 14, 2021 Update:
IT'S SO SPICY! I ordered the Chicken Vindaloo with hot as spice-level and it burns. It's so delicious.

Palak Paneer, Chicken Vindaloo, and more for Dinner at Aanch | Michelin Guide Restaurant

Happy Sunday! It's Thanksgiving long weekend, so I originally had planned for us to have dinner at OB Canteen because they have a special Thanksgiving turkey menu. Unfortunately, we arrived too late, and they were closed for the evening. We got there a couple minutes before 8:00 PM.

When researching places to eat, I checked the newly announced Michelin Guide for Toronto, and Aanch is a block away from where we were, so we went there to have dinner instead.

We ordered and ate a lot. This is also our first meal in Toronto that we went beyond a hundred dollars for the two of us. 💸

Dinner at Aanch

We ordered most of our usual when going to Indian restaurants but tried one new item from the shareable section of the menu.

The calamari was unexpectedly delicious. How come I don't order this at other Indian restaurants?! The calamari is covered in masala sauce, which is tangy and spicy in flavour, but the raw onion and dip are great supporting acts to provide balance to the dish.

Chatpatti Calamari

For our mains, I ordered the usual Chicken Vindaloo and Palak Paneer.

Palak Paneer
Cottage cheese cooked with pureed spinach in onion-tomato gravy.

The Palak Paneer is the best one I've tried. It's not spicy, but it's so flavourful.

Chicken Vindaloo
Goan special chicken curry in hot & spicy vindaloo gravy

The Chicken Vindaloo is so hot (as warned by the server) that hubby only got a few pieces of the chicken and none of the sauce, while I enjoy it best with the Garlic Naan.

Garlic Naan
Tandoori bread topped with fresh garlic & coriander

The garlic naan bursts with garlic flavour, which is generally sweet, so it worked perfectly well with the Vindaloo.

To end our meal, we asked for the dessert menu and ordered Kheer. It's the same dessert we enjoyed last time we went to an Indian restaurant. It's even better!

Kaju Kishmish Kheer
Sweetened rice & dry fruits cooked in rose sugar milk.

It was a great evening spending a lovely and delicious meal with my love in a city we're visiting for the first time. 😍

Lunch from Bombay Kitchen and Bar

शुभ बुधवार Happy Wednesday!

Because my arm was still sore from getting the COVID-19 vaccine, we ordered enough food to last for the week from nearby Bombay Kitchen and Bar at 11th Avenue and Granville Street.

Food from Bombay Kitchen and Bar

This is our first time ordering from them, even though they are located a block away from our apartment. It's crazy! We didn't even go to Vij's when it occupied this space.

We ordered seven dishes, and I'll share my review of each one.

Bombay Mix Platter

I love appetizers, and when any restaurant has a platter of sorts, I almost always get it because it allows me to try many different things.

Bombay Mix Platter
Veggie Samosa, Veggie Pakora, Chicken Pakora, and Fish Pakora.

Based on the menu description, I couldn't find my favourite. However, I enjoyed what I think is fried tofu with spinach in the middle. It's so creamy and good.

Tandoor Chicken

I don't eat Indian cuisine as often as I can, so I have only tried Tandoori Chicken once from Tandoori Kona Restaurant in Richmond.

The chicken was moist, but I missed the seasonings or was just overwhelmed by the heat from the Vindaloo and Biryani, so I couldn't appreciate this dish. I can't wait to reheat it tomorrow and try it again to see if it'll improve.

Tandoori Chicken
Chicken marinated with authentic Indian spices and grilled to perfection in the tandoor.

Chicken Vindaloo

I have loved vindaloo ever since trying it on Granville Island. It's hot and delicious. Now, whenever we go to an Indian restaurant, I get the Chicken Vindaloo. I like the Chicken Vindaloo, and the menu description perfectly described it as "A symphony of fire."

Chicken Vindaloo
Zesty curry cooked in a tangy sauce with vinegar, coconut, and potatoes

Palak Paneer

I only have one regret about our Palak Paneer. I picked "Not Spicy" - now, compared to the other dishes, it tasted bland. It's my fault. I should have gone with Mild. Hopefully, with plain rice tomorrow, I can taste the Palak Paneer goodness I love.

Palak Paneer
Homemade cheese cooked with spinach and garlic.

Mix Biryani

This is actually my first time trying Biryani, and I am kicking myself in the butt for waiting this long to try it. However, this is the best dish from Bombay Kitchen and Bar today. I will gladly order this again and again and again. Now, I am excited to try other Indian restaurants and get their Biryani just to compare.

Mix Biryani
A rich combination of vegetables, chicken, lamb, prawn, spices, and basmati rice

Did I tell you that we eat Basmati Brown Rice at least three times a week? I can't wait to reheat the dishes we ordered today and enjoy them for the rest of the week!

Lunch from Akbar's Own Indian Restaurant

Happy Sunday on a long weekend. We went to Mass, and afterwards, we had lunch at Akbar's Own Indian Restaurant.

Hubby and I started a Boosting Broadway Businesses project where we do our best to support restaurants and coffee shops along Broadway. This is why we chose to have lunch at Akbar's.

Lunch Feast from Akbar's Own Indian Restaurant

We ordered our usual orders at Indian restaurants. The serving is not huge, but enough.
  • Mixed Platter (Samosa, vegetable pakora, and chicken pakora)
  • Garlic & Basil Naan
  • Tandoori Chicken
  • Palak Paneer
  • Chicken Vindaloo
  • Lamb Biryani
  • Kheer

Mixed Platter
Serves 2. Samosa, vegetable pakora, and chicken pakora

When we come back, I'll order the chicken pakora again. It's the best item from the Mixed Platter.

Garlic & Basil Naan
White unleavened bread baked in tandoor oven flavoured with garlic and basil.

I think this is the best Garlic Naan I've had so far.

Tandoori Chicken
Half chicken marinated with authentic Indian spices & grilled in tandoor to perfection.

The chicken was still juicy inside, and you could taste the char from the grilling. Overall, a great Tandoori Chicken.

Palak Paneer
Homemade cheese cooked with spinach, onions, and Indian spices.

I wished the Palak Paneer had more flavour. It's pretty disappointing.

Chicken Vindaloo
Boneless chicken & potatoes cooked in a zesty, tangy curry sauce.

I like vindaloo because its flavour profile is different from your usual curry or butter chicken. It's spicy, and there's some sourness to it.

Lamb Biryani
Basmati rice cooked with lamb and Indian spices.

The biryani was flavourful, and the lamb was so tender.

Kheer
Rice flour cooked in milk. Served cold, a delightful dessert of our old traditional days

My favourite is the Lamb Biryani and the dessert. 🤤 I can't believe this is the first time I'm trying Kheer. It's delicious.

Inside Akbar's Own Indian Restaurant

We were there at 12:02 PM, and when we ended our meal more than an hour later, there were no other customers. So if you're able to, please support your local businesses.

Lunch delivery from Bombay Masala Indian Restaurant

We had leftover rice from yesterday, so we needed to order from a place that eats rice as much as we (Filipinos) do.

Sorting by Skip Score in SkipTheDishes, one of the first few suggestions was Bombay Masala Indian Restaurant. Since my parents are bringing us food for the week this week, hubby said we only order a couple dishes instead of our usual too much.

Palak Paneer - Cottage cheese cooked in a fresh spinach curry tempered with garlic, ginger, and a touch of cream.

Somehow, I prefer the Palak Paneer from Meinhardt Fine Foods.

Chicken Vindaloo - Boneless chicken cooked in a tangy curry sauce

The one from New India Buffet + Bar & Restaurant is better. I don't know why.

Veggie Samosa - Vegetarian. Crisp homemade patties stuffed with potatoes and green peas served with chutney. One order comes with two pieces.

The samosa was great. I enjoyed the crunchy outside.

Garlic Naan - Garnished naan with garlic and corriander

The naan was the best thing we've had from this delivery. Though we have leftovers for tomorrow, so I look forward to reheating both the vindaloo and paneer.

This is written on the outside of the delivery bag. They're so sweet.

Gulab Jamun - Pastry balls deep fried and served in cardamom syrup.

I have tried this dessert only once in the past, and I think it's too sweet.

Lunch Date at Bombay Kitchen + Bar

We arrived at Bombay Kitchen + Bar at 11:30 AM when they opened. It's a beautifully designed restaurant. I love the fountain and fireplace; the wall decorations and lighting are exquisite.

The beautiful interior of Bombay Kitchen + Bar at 11th Avenue.

We were seated and given the menu. After five minutes, our waiter returned to inform us that the chef had just arrived and it'll be a few minutes before they could take our order and asked if we could wait. Thankfully, we're not famished and just had breakfast at Blenz Coffee.

At noon, the server returned and took our order of Honey Chilli Fries, Butter Chicken, Karahi Paneer, Garlic Naan, and Mix Biryani.

Honey Chilli Fries

The first to arrive at our table is the Honey Chilli Fries. It was sweet and a bit spicy, and the fries were soggy because of the sauce. However, the portion was surprisingly generous and perfect for sharing between 2-3 people.

Honey Chilli Fries from Bombay Kitchen + Bar
Sweet & spicy fries tossed in a special chef's sauce.

Butter Chicken

The Butter Chicken arrived next, and we ordered it with a medium spice level. It was sweet. I don't know what's wrong with me because I never knew butter chicken was sweet until I tried some at New India Buffet. I can only taste the savoury sweetness (I'm not sure if that made sense as a flavour). I expected it to be creamy and savoury with minimal to no sweetness. It's so amusing. I blame my love for Vindaloo, which is tarty and spicy, so maybe that's why butter chicken tastes sweet.

January 12 Update: We had butter chicken leftovers and it still has a lot of sweet flavours but there's a more subtle heat going on. Eating it with plain rice seems to be the way to go to appreciate the full flavour.

Butter Chicken
Chicken breast cooked with light cream and tomato with fenugreek.

Karahi Paneer

It's our first time trying karahi paneer. It has a subtle sour flavour because of the tomatoes, while the onions provided sweetness, and the paneer was creamy.

Karahi Paneer
Homemade cheese pieces are served in thick gravy with big chunky pieces of onion, capsicum, and tomatoes.

Mix Biryani and Garlic Naan

We ordered the Mix Biryani and Garlic Naan because those two were my favourite things when we had food from Bombay Kitchen + Bar in 2021. The naan has a nice char and is slightly bitter, especially on the edges. There is crushed garlic on top, providing so much garlicky flavour to the naan.

Garlic Naan
White leavened bread flavoured with garlic.

Meanwhile, the Biryani is perfectly spicy and seasoned. The chicken and lamb are tender, and the prawns are perfectly cooked. I love it!

Mix Biryani
A rich combination of veggies, chicken, lamb, & prawn spices & basmati rice.

Gajar Ka Halwa

I wanted Kheer, but it's unavailable. So we tried the Gajar Ka Halwa for the first time. It's made with fresh carrots. It's not overly sweet. The bowl and dessert were warm and had a lot of coconut flavour.

Gajar Ka Halwa
Indian pudding made with fresh carrots, milk, sugar, ghee, & nuts.

We stayed here until 1:30 PM and enjoyed our meal over gossip. We discussed the latest in Philippine news and chismis and our dreams and goals. Weekly dates with my husband are always a heart-fluttering experience.

Lunch from New India Buffet + Bar & Restaurant

April Fool's day is the longest day we've been out of the house. We were out for nearly 2 hours - running errands.

Cherry Blossoms trees in full bloom in our block.

We went to RBC all the way near Cambie (1.7km) to withdraw coins. You're silly, coins are not "essential." Well, for renters like us, we need coins to do laundry. After getting coins, we grabbed groceries from Shoppers. Then, we decided to order online for pick-up 4-5 days worth of Indian food from New India Buffet + Bar & Restaurant.

I've never eaten here, but I definitely will once this COVID-19 situation is over.

It's beautiful inside. We ordered chicken vindaloo, beef saag (spinach), aloo gobi (potato and cauliflower), and fish masala. It's so delicious!
