Mac and Cheese dinner before VanDusen Glow in the Garden

Saturday date night planned by my hubby means food truck dinner and a walk around our favourite park in Vancouver, VanDusen Botanical Garden.

Lunch at The Ouisi Bistro

This morning I read this article from Vancouver is Awesome about a couple of restaurants closing in our neighbourhood of South Granville. For a couple of years, we have been living a block away from Granville Street, and we have tried a lot of restaurants nearby.

However, more places we love will close, especially along Broadway between Granville and Hemlock. The location of the new train station is going to force close more than five different restaurants in that strip alone. The goal now is to support these small businesses until the time they have to leave.

For lunch today, we decided to eat at The Ouisi Bistro. We were greeted by their hospitable and friendly servers, and we enjoyed warm comfort food while it rains outside.

Jambalaya (smoked ham, sausage, four prawns, & rice)

The Jambalaya is delicious and comforting like a mother's hug. But the Chicken Bayou Burger is such a pleasant surprise of yumminess.

I am sad to see this place close.

Update: This location is now occupied by The Breakfast Table.

Thanksgiving Dinner Date at Saku

Saku is a relatively new restaurant along West Broadway near Cambie. We noticed it a few weeks back because the number of people waiting outside is significant. We were running errands, and it just so happen they are open even if it's a holiday. They are getting ready for the dinner rush and will open their doors at 5:00 PM.

We were able to get inside at around 5:20 PM but received our food 25 minutes later. If you're starving, this might not be the place for you. But the food is worth the wait.

I love how juicy my Hire Katsu and much fattier than hubby's Rosu Katsu. I ordered the Hire Katsu Curry with Cheesy Katsu on the side. Skip the curry because, indeed, the pork is the star of the show. That's saying a lot because I love my Japanese curry and the fact that I'll eat the port without the curry sauce means something.

We also enjoyed the unlimited miso soup and an unlimited side salad. On our next visit, I'll order the Cheese Katsu.
