Fish and Chips at Locarno Beach Cafe

After two hours in Spanish Banks Beach, we decided to walk to Locarno Beach and then Jericho Beach before heading back to West Broadway to catch the bus.

We spotted fish and chips at Locarno Beach Cafe and decided to enjoy it with the view of the water and sand on our feet. It's such a beautiful sunny day. It's like a gentle reminder that summer is almost over.

We enjoyed our fish and chips on this table.

Happy Monday!

Ice Cream and Smoothie from Coco Van Ice Cream

Happy Labour Day! We started Monday with no concrete plans on what we should do. We ended up heading to Spanish Banks Beach, and it was gorgeous.

View from Sasamat Street

On our way to the beach, we saw Coco Van Ice Cream, and my husband was more than eager to have sweets.

He had the Classic Coconut while I went to The Pina Colada. Both were good, but I regret not getting the Coconut Ice Cream Rolls.

We hope to see the van again so we can try other flavours.

Dinner from KFC

Happy Sunday! It was raining outside, so we stayed home all day and ordered KFC for dinner.

Champion Beef Brisket with Noodle in Clear Soup for dinner at Chef Hung Taiwanese Beef Noodle

To end our Taiwanfest day, we had dinner at Chef Hung Taiwanese Beef Noodle. When we visited Chef Hung in the past, we always ordered our favourite Taiwanese dishes - deep-fried pork cutlet, deep-fried chicken nuggets, deep-fried chicken cutlet, and deep-fried Taiwanese sausage. However, the clue should have been in the name - beef!

Since we already had Taiwanese fried chicken and sausage today, I decided to go for beef noodles while hubby ordered beef on rice. Both are way better than the chicken and pork dishes we have tried so far.

A1. Champion Beef Brisket with Noodle in Clear Soup

The broth has a clean beefy flavour, and the noodles are perfectly al dente, but the soft beef is the real winner. You don't even have to chew that much it falls apart quickly.

B1. Braised Beef Shank on Rice

The same beef tenderness can be said of the beef shank. The sauce is good too.

E1. Marinated Beef Wrap

The only disappointment of the night was the marinated beef wrap. The beef was not as soft as the other two, and the only flavour was from the cucumber.

Taiwanese Souffle

To end the already fantastic food day, we tried their Taiwanese Souffle. The top has a bit of crunch, and the inside has red beans and pearls. It's quite delicious.

Chef Hung Taiwanese Beef Noodle Menu

For future me, below is a list of menu items from Chef Hung Taiwanese Beef Noodle that we've tried.

Lunch at Hot Star Large Fried Chicken

After the disappointment over the lack of rice at Taiwanfest's Sasaya Bistro, we walked to nearby Hot Star Large Fried Chicken. We love Hot Star, and I miss it so much.

First, I'm happy to see it still open because the last time we enjoyed a meal here was March 2020, a week before the whole work from home and pandemic. I had an interview and a job offer all in that week, but since the world turned upside down (sort of), the job offer was rescinded.

We had our usual order at Hot Star, which was so satisfying.

Yogurt Green Apple is my absolute favourite "milk tea" drink.

Original Chicken Leg Bento

I prefer the Chicken Leg chicken over the Original Large Fried Chicken for some reason. Maybe because it still has bone and skin, it just seems better.

Creamy Custard Fried Buns

A peak inside the Creamy Custard Fried Buns

I love fried buns, and even after we left, I wanted more.

After lunch, we went to the Vancouver Public Library to look at books, then to Anticipated Sunday Mass at Holy Rosary Cathedral.

Breakast from Sasaya Bistro Ltd at Taiwanfest

Happy Saturday! After our food adventure at Richmond Night Market, we woke up later than usual today and did errands home. We left at 1:00 PM for our first meal of the day at Taiwanfest. We love Taiwanese food, and I blame this little fast food in Makati in 2011 called Dang Dee for our love for Taiwanese Sausage, fried chicken, and fried pork chop from the island nation.

With that said, every Labour Day weekend, we would go to Downtown Vancouver to see the displays, learn a bit more about the culture and their current struggles, and of course, eat.

Taiwanfest seems much smaller this year than previous years, and there's only one food vendor as well - Sasaya Bistro. They're a restaurant in Burnaby which we tried in 2015 by some conspiracy by the universe.

We were lining up to order their bento and were informed that they had run out of rice. I was upset but too angry to deal with them, so we just ordered Deep-Fried Diced Chicken and Deep-Fried Taiwanese Sausage.

Both were delicious and sufficient to pacify my hunger, but I needed rice, so we walked to nearby Hot-Star Fried Chicken, a Taiwanese fast food focusing on large fried chicken.
