Dim Sum and more at Continental Seafood Restaurant

We celebrate our dad's birthday with a family dinner at Continental Seafood Restaurant in Cambie Road, Richmond, BC.

We arrived at the restaurant at 5:00 PM for an early dinner. I love the service - they're so attentive to us since there are only two other occupied tables.

We got the following items:

  • Pork & Shrimp Dumpling
  • Deep Fried Taro Samosa
  • Pork Spring Roll
  • Half & Crispy Chicken
  • Shrimp Scallop Dumpling
  • Deep Fried Squid with Salt & Pepper
  • Shrimp Spring Roll
  • Baked BBQ Pork Bun
  • Soya Sauce Chow Mein
  • Roasted Pork
  • BBQ Pork
  • Yangzhou Fried Rice

Everything was delicious and unique. That's all you need to know. Kidding; skip the Half & Crispy Chicken.

The Baked BBQ Pork Bun reminded me of asado bola-bola siopao. The Pork & Shrimp Dumpling (siu mai) is better than the Shrimp Scallop Dumpling.

Deep Fried Taro Samosa, Pork & Shrimp Dumping, and Shrimp Scallop Dumpling from Continental Seafood Restaurant

Both spring rolls are crunchy on the outside and delicious on the inside. It's just a matter of preference if you like pork or shrimp. If spring rolls are not your thing, you can skip it. But it's better than other Chinese restaurants around.

Shrimp Spring Roll and Pork Spring Roll from Continental Seafood Restaurant

I have a secret love for deep-fried taro, so I always get it in the rare times I see it. Meanwhile, my younger sister has always been fond of deep-fried squid with salt & pepper, so we always order it.

I wanted to compare the Roasted Pork and BBQ Pork with HK BBQ Master. The roasted pork was not as crispy, while the BBQ pork was not as sweet but still tender.

The best part of the meal is Yangzhou fried rice. It's the best in Metro Vancouver that I've tried so far.

After dinner, we drove back to my parents' place to eat cake while watching Mission Impossible (1996).

9-Piece from Mary Brown's Chicken

I love fried chicken and am constantly looking for the best, usually from fast food joints. My favourite in Metro Vancouver is still from LA Chicken in Richmond, while my favourite from big chains is Church's Texas Chicken. I also have a favourite Taiwanese popcorn chicken from Redbeef Noodle Kitchen, and my favourite Japanese karaage is from Ramen Gojiro. I know my fried chicken and the city has many delicious joints.

9-Piece Bone-In Feast with half regular and half spicy Chicken from Mary Brown's Chicken

Today, we visited my parents and had Mary Brown's Chicken delivered for the first time. If you can take the heat, their spicy fried chicken is top-notch. The real winner, though, is the wedges. It's seasoned perfectly and has that crispy exterior and soft interior. Overall, it's a good place, and it's a Canadian chain, so perfect for Canada Day.

Original Burger from Triple O's

It's a beautiful Sunday! My parents are back in Canada. Yay! My mom requested a burger from BC fast-food chain Triple O's for dinner.

Original Burger from Triple O's
100% fresh Canadian beef, crisp iceberg lettuce, fresh vine-ripened tomatoes, Secret Triple "O" sauce and our signature pickle on top.

It was my first time trying the Original Burger, and it didn't disappoint. At this point, I have tried all beef burger variants (except double-double and lettuce wrap). My favourite is the Chipotle BBQ Bacon Melt.

Original Burger from Triple O's
100% fresh Canadian beef, crisp iceberg lettuce, fresh vine-ripened tomatoes, Secret Triple "O" sauce and our signature pickle on top.

For our sides, we ordered my favourite Garlic Parmesan Fries. Yummy! Although, the Sweet Potato Fries are delicious too. Lastly, how can you go wrong with milkshakes? So we got a 20oz Cookies & Cream Milkshake. It's creamy and just perfect with the salty side.

Trying Popeyes' Ghost Pepper Chicken Sandwich

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen never fails to impress when it comes to bold flavours and fiery sensations. In their latest limited-time offering, the Ghost Pepper Chicken Sandwich, Popeyes combines their renowned expertise in fried chicken with the intense heat of ghost peppers.

Ghost Pepper Chicken Sandwich from Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen

At the heart of Popeyes' Ghost Pepper Chicken Sandwich is a perfectly cooked, all-white meat chicken breast fillet. Marinated in an authentic blend of Louisiana seasonings, the chicken is expertly hand-battered and breaded in a buttermilk coating. The result? A symphony of textures, with the exterior boasting an irresistible crunch while the interior remains tender and juicy. Unlike some fried options, this sandwich impresses with its lack of excess oil, making each bite a delightful and satisfying experience.

Ghost Pepper Chicken Sandwich from Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen

One of the standout features of the Ghost Pepper Chicken Sandwich is the ghost pepper mayo, delivering a subtle heat that adds depth to every mouthful. While not as fiery as the Ghost Pepper Chicken Ranch Chicken Sandwich from Wendy's, Popeyes strikes a harmonious balance, allowing the heat to complement rather than overpower the overall flavour profile. Accompanied by crunchy pickles that provide a refreshing tang and contrast to the spiciness, this sandwich is a well-rounded delight that caters to a range of palates.

Overall, it's a delicious sandwich but can be enjoyed even by those with mild tolerance to spicy food.

Crispy Delight: A Review of Popeyes Flounder Fish Sandwich

Are you looking for a mouthwatering seafood experience combining crispy goodness with tender flounder fillets? Look no further than Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen and their irresistible Flounder Fish Sandwich. In this blog post, I'll share my firsthand experience of savouring this delectable sandwich and how it exceeded my expectations, even when ordered for delivery.

With my first bite, I was greeted by a delightful contrast of textures. The exterior coating of the flounder fillet boasted a satisfying crunch, perfectly complementing the tender and flavorful fish inside. Despite the sandwich being delivered, the crispy exterior remained intact, showcasing the quality and attention to detail in Popeyes' preparation.

Flounder Fish Sandwich from Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen

What impressed me the most was the way the flavours harmonized. The flounder fillet was succulent and perfectly cooked, offering a delicate and mild taste. The tartar sauce added a creamy and slightly tangy note, while the pickles provided a refreshing crunch and a hint of zing. It was a harmonious symphony of flavours that left me craving more.

One thing that sets Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen apart from other fast food chains, particularly those known for their delectable fried chicken, is their inclusion of a seafood sandwich on their menu. While many fast food establishments focus primarily on fried chicken, Popeyes' introduction of the Flounder Fish Sandwich is a pleasant surprise. It's refreshing to find a crispy and flavorful seafood offering amidst the sea of chicken sandwiches, showcasing Popeyes' commitment to offering diverse and satisfying choices for their customers.

Food Adventure at the Richmond Night Market

We went to the Richmond Night Market on opening night and got in as soon as it opened because of our Zoom Pass. Last year, I made a note to myself to go earlier into the season to write about all the food stalls, which I am attempting to do here.

Below are the food items we enjoyed from the different available food vendors. We decided not to get the same things last year (even though it's really tempting), and we just went for what looked good or anything we hadn't tried before.

F69. Momo's

Considering these premises, we started our food night with Deep-Fried Beef Momo from Booth F69 Momo's The Himalayan Dumplings. This is our first time trying Momo.

Deep-Fried Beef Momo at Richmond Night Market

I have a new favourite dumpling. Their Momo is packed with pure beef and seasoned perfectly, and it goes really well with the spicy sauce. Can I have another serving, please?

Booth F69. Momo's The Himalayan Dumplings

What is Momo?

Momo is a type of dumpling that is a popular dish in Himalayan and Tibetan cuisine. It is typically made with ground meat, vegetables, and spices wrapped in a thin dough wrapper and either steamed or fried. Momos are often served with a spicy dipping sauce and are popular street food in the Himalayan region.

F66. Garlic Oil Pork VermicelliK (Khay Oh) from Burmese Plate

Another cuisine we have yet to try is Burmese Cuisine (Myanmar cuisine).

Booth F66. Burmese Plate

They serve three items: Garlic Oil Pork VermicelliK (Khay Oh), Laksa Soup, and Golden Rice (Chicken Dan Pauk). When we're uncertain, we usually go from the top of the list, which is why we got the Garlic Oil Pork VermicelliK (Khay Oh).

Garlic Oil Pork VermicelliK (Khay Oh)
Vermicelli, garlic oil, vegetable, quail eggs, pork ball with shrimp and fish paste.

The garlic oil pork is so tender, soft, and juicy, while the noodles have a mild flavour and chewy texture, so the sauce they provide is a must! It's tangy and a little bit spicy.

What is Khay Oh?

Khay oh is a traditional Burmese noodle soup that is typically made with thin rice noodles in a savoury broth, served with a variety of toppings such as slices of pork or chicken, fish cakes, and fried garlic. The soup is often flavoured with spices and herbs and can be garnished with fresh lime juice, cilantro, and chopped scallions. Khay oh is a popular comfort food in Myanmar and is often enjoyed as a hearty breakfast or lunch dish.

F52. Pineapple Juice from Fresh Juice

After two savoury dishes, I needed something refreshing, so we went to the first fruit juice stand we saw and got a large pineapple juice to share.

F43. Taiwan Deep Fried Chicken Strips

It's my first time trying Taiwan Deep-Fried Chicken Strips. I am familiar with Salt & Pepper Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken, which is my favourite, but these chicken strips are pretty different.

Original Taiwan Deep-Fried Chicken Strips in Richmond Night Market

It's good but not popcorn chicken good. But it's easy to eat while we scout the rest of the Richmond Night Market.

Booth F43. Taiwan Deep Fried Chicken Strips

F8. Signature Bao Bun from Bao Buns

After three savoury items and a refreshing drink, it's time for desserts, and there are PLENTY of fun and unique options, but the best marketing award goes to Bao Buns. It's like a party near their booth! The energy and joy are infectious, which is why we ordered one, and their food deserves all the hype marketing.

Signature Bao Bun from Bao Buns
Deep-fried mantou, vanilla ice cream, condensed milk, and icing sugar

There's a restaurant in the Philippines called North Park, and one of the items I love are their fried buns with condensed milk. I love the crispy exterior and soft interior - the contrast is so great. I love it! I'll be happy even without the ice cream and all the toppings - yes, it's that good.

F108. Deluxe Deep-Fried Basket from Myst

My love for Taiwanese food started with Dang Dee (a small restaurant in Makati that's now closed), so every time I see Taiwanese sausage and fried chicken, I know it will be great, and the food from Myst delivered.

Deluxe Deep-Fried Basket from Myst
Taiwanese fried chicken, deep-fried fish cake, classic steamed sticky rice, and Taiwanese sausage wrapped with glutinous rice.

Both are so delicious on top of Seasoned Sticky Rice. The rice was cooked with shrimp and savoury seasoning. They're surprisingly mouthwatering on their own.

At this point, I'm feeling full. I blame the rice, of course.

F27. Korean Chicken Skewer K-Garbi

Our last bite in the Richmond Night Market for this evening is from Booth F27 Korean Chicken Skewer. We ordered the K-Garbi (Korean BBQ Sauce). It goes well with our rice, and it could just be my Filipino-ness and me talking, but savoury BBQ on rice is always delicious.

K-Garbi from Booth F27 Korean Chicken Skewer

After finishing our food, we walked around the merchandise area but didn't buy anything. We have three remaining Zoom Pass entries and can't wait to return!

A Taste of Sweden: My Food Coma Lunch at Ikea Restaurant

Happy Sunday! We discovered this morning that one of the light bulbs in our lamp no longer works. So we decided to go to Ikea after Mass to get one.

Exterior of Ikea in Richmond, BC

Ikea is a Swedish multinational company best known for its affordable flat-pack furniture. Most of our household items are from there! However, many people may not realize that Ikea also has a restaurant that serves various delicious and affordable dishes. So it made sense that we enjoyed lunch at the Ikea Restaurant before buying a light bulb.

Swedish Meatballs

There must be something wrong with me because the meatballs weren't as good as I remember, which made me sad. However, the gravy and mashed potatoes are the usual, and the green peas are cooked and seasoned perfectly. My favourite part of the lunch is the lingonberries sauce.

Swedish Meatballs, Mashed Potatoes, Peas, Cream Sauce, and Lingonberries from Ikea

Salmon with Vegetable Medallion

My husband chose the 'New' Salmon with Vegetable Medallion. The fresh salmon is perfectly cooked, and the salt brings out the fish's natural sweetness. I love it!

The salmon is topped with a red pepper relish sauce which has a tangy yet slightly sweet taste with a subtle spiciness.

Salmon with Vegetable Medallion with Peas, Corn Mix Veggies, and Red Pepper Relish Sauce from Ikea

The salmon is served with Vegetable Medallion on the side. I surprisingly liked it. It's savoury and creamy, with a slightly crispy exterior and a soft, smooth interior. There's a subtle sweetness from the broccoli and leek, but the cheese and herbs add a surprising depth of flavour.

Soup of the Day: Hungarian Mushroom

The Soup of the Day at Ikea Restaurant is Hungarian Mushroom, a type of mushroom soup popular in Eastern European cuisine. It has a rich, earthy, and savoury flavour. It's not as creamy as other mushroom soups I have tried,   and the focus is on the nutty undertone and subtle sweetness of the mushroom. It's comforting.

Hungarian Soup from Ikea

Vegetable Spring Rolls and Vegetable Samosas

This feels like a fan service to the local market in Richmond, BC, with a large population of East Asians and South Asians. Both items have a crunchy exterior, but the interior is acceptable for the price. So if you want mind-blowingly good samosas or spring rolls, go to restaurants that are experts in both.

Vegetarian Spring Rolls and Vegetarian Samosas from Ikea

DAIM Cake

A visit to the Ikea restaurant won't be complete without having a slice of their DAIM Cake. It is one of their popular dessert items, made with layers of almond cake and caramel buttercream, covered with a chocolate ganache and pieces of DAIM candy. The cake has a rich, sweet flavour and crunchy texture from the candy pieces.

DAIM Cake from Ikea Restaurant

After lunch, we walked around Ikea. We got the light bulb we need and so much more. It's such a dangerous place for your wallet.

Regular Vanilla Frozen Yogurt

After shopping and paying for our items, we grabbed a Regular Vanilla Frozen Yogurt, which tastes like soft-serve ice cream. No hint of sourness is expected from a yogurt.

Regular Vanilla Frozen Yogurt from Ikea

I plan to try their $1.00 hotdog next time to see if it can compete with a great deal from Costco.

Uncovering BBQ in Richmond: A Review of HK BBQ Master

My brother celebrated his birthday last week, and today, he requested Crispy Roast Pork from HK BBQ Master.

HK BBQ Master is a famous Hong Kong-style barbecue restaurant in Richmond, BC. They were featured in David Chang's Netflix Original series 'Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner' episode with Seth Rogen as they eat through Vancouver.

BBQ Duck waiting to be served at HK BBQ Master

After waiting in line for 5 to 10 minutes which is better than I thought it could be given that it's Saturday lunch, we noticed a sign that you can phone in to pre-order by calling their number: 604-272-6568. We didn't know this, so I hope you find it useful.

When we got to the counter, I ordered 2 lbs of Crispy Roast Pork and 2 lbs of Honey BBQ Pork, and half BBQ duck. Of course, we went to my parent's place right away to enjoy it with rice.

The Crispy Roast Pork looks and tastes familiar. In the Philippines, we call it fried liempo, which I enjoy with Filipino lechon sauce. The crispy golden-brown skin is such a perfect complement to the tender meat. My mouth is watering thinking about it again.

Crispy Roast Pork from HK BBQ Master

Meanwhile, the BBQ duck is not as flavourful as Honey BBQ Pork, but the skin was crispy, and the meat was juicy, so the textures were on point, but the pork dishes were better.

BBQ Duck from HK BBQ Master

The Honey BBQ Pork is my favourite of the meat we ordered today. It has a perfect balance of sweet and salty flavours known for its succulent texture with a sticky, sweet, and savoury glaze.

Honey BBQ Pork from HK BBQ Master

Overall, I want to return and order more meat and enjoy it at home with steamed vegetables.

Wagyu Bacon Cheese Japadog at Vancouver International Airport (YVR)

We're home! If it's your first time at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and you're looking for a place to eat BEFORE security, I recommend Pajo's Famous for Fish & Chips. They're a local food chain based in Richmond, BC. I also highly recommend you try Japadog, which has a store in the food court area near the Domestic Terminal. Anthony Bourdain had their food in one of their trucks in Downtown Vancouver, so if you're in YVR, Japadog is worth the visit.

Japadog at Vancouver International Airport (YVR)

We tried for the first time the Wagyu Bacon Cheese Japadog for early dinner before heading home. It reminds me of a bacon cheeseburger but on top of a delicious Wagyu beef hotdog and between soft buns. I love it!

We also ordered the Wagyu Terimayo and Japanade. I love the Japadog Lemonade. The tartness of the lemon is such a good palate cleanser from the savoury oily hotdog sandwich.

Tim Hortons: Farmers Breakfast Wrap

It's a beautiful Friday in Vancouver! We're flying to California today to visit family. To start our trip, we're grabbing breakfast at Tim Hortons at the airport. ♥️

The line was long for Tims. Finally, after around 15 minutes, we got my favourite Farmers' Breakfast Wrap with Sausage & Bacon and a bottle of Orange Juice.

Tim Hortons Farmers Breakfast Wrap

It has everything you want in a breakfast meal: egg, bacon, sausage, and hash browns inside a portable and easy-to-eat wrap.

I can't wait to see my aunties, uncle, and cousin. Thank God for all the blessings. I'm grateful for the chance to travel again. Unfortunately, we received news last Wednesday that will impact our budget. I am a bit scared but always comforted that God will continue to provide for us and reward the work of our hands.

I'll be writing and posting using my phone, so please forgive any grammatical errors and misspellings. I'll edit all posts when we get home.

Matcha Red Bean Smoothie from Chatime Canada

Happy Saturday! Hubby and I went shopping at Richmond Center, and I was feeling parched, so I decided to get the Matcha Red Bean Smoothie. It's part of their seasonal menu.

Matcha Red Bean Smoothie

I like the green tea's slight bitterness and the mushy red bean texture. It's enjoyable.

Pizza Hut delivers Triple Pizza Box

It's our first time visiting my parents this year. For dinner, my youngest sister had Pizza Hut delivered because my mom loves it.

She ordered the Triple Treat Box which arrived in a Triple Pizza "Box" - it's more like a sleeve where you can slide each individual pizza box. It came with two medium pizzas, regular breadsticks, two dips, 8 boneless bites, and an ultimate Hershey's Chipits Cookie.

Triple Pizza Box from Pizza Hut

On the first box, we have the Canadian Pizza. I am reminded why I love and hate Pizza Hut. It's so heavy and oily which makes it so good too. 🤣 The crust is airy and so oily from the firs touch.

Canadian
Pepperoni, bacon crumbles, sliced mushrooms, and pizza mozzarella

On the second box, we have our mom's favourite: Supreme Lover's®. When we were kids in the Philippines, Pizza Hut locations would sell two slices of regular-size pizza for like PHP 49.00  (around $1.25 CAD). My mom would bring those home as a treat for us. The usual options were Hawaiian, Pepperoni, and Supreme.

On the third box, there are regular breadsticks, two dips, 8 boneless bites, and an ultimate Hershey's Chipits Cookie.

It was an exhausting day but my love tank is so full from spending time with my husband and seeing my parents and siblings. Thank God!

Chicken Wings and Chicken Strips from Costco Food Court

Costco Food Court in their Richmond, BC location offers Chicken Wings in 10 or 30 pieces. Unfortunately, the wings are unavailable in the Downtown Vancouver Costco branch.

Chicken Wings

It's good, perfectly fried chicken wings. Crispy skin and juicy chicken meat. It's suitable for parties.

Chicken Strips and French Fries

We also ordered the Chicken Strips just to try them out. The meat was flavourful, but getting one of the dips would be advisable.

Costco Food Court Menu and Prices | Richmond, BC Location

We visited Costco in Bridgeport, Richmond, BC, to check the food court menu. I want to compare it with the Costco food court menu in Expo Boulevard, Vancouver, BC.

Short version: In Richmond, BC, Costco has Chicken Wings, which are unavailable at the Downtown Vancouver location.

Below is a link to other Costco Food Court Menu and Prices that I have visited. I am planning to make #CostcoTourism a thing.
